The Engadget team spends a considerable amount of time researching the best tech gifts for everyone in our lives. However, during this process, we also think about the gifts we’d like to receive. It’s a good idea to treat yourself while looking for gifts for loved ones, and I believe it’s time to take our own advice. Therefore, I’ve put together a list of devices that appear on some of our contributors' wish lists, hoping this inspires some to treat themselves this year.

I can’t help but feel a bit envious seeing how my colleagues have upgraded their old cameras to Fujifilm models. The appealing retro design, compact size, and analog film simulations are just some of the reasons to be tempted by these cameras. Additionally, the ability to charge the device via USB-C is extremely enticing, especially when you’ve been using a decade-old Olympus at events. For these reasons, I think it’s my turn to join them, and I hope someone surprises me with an X-T50 this holiday season.

The X-T50 is the latest addition to Fujifilm’s mid-range lineup and comes with the premium features I’m looking for in a more affordable package. It includes a 40.2-megapixel sensor, 6K video at 30p, and in-body image stabilization, everything you would expect from the more advanced X-T5. Fujifilm has designed the X-T50 with its target audience in mind, adding film simulations to one of the main dials. If you’re on the go and want to tweak the look of an image, you can rotate the dial to see which option looks best before capturing the shot. I also enjoy the physical controls rather than having to navigate through cumbersome digital menus.

I borrowed an X-T50 for two weeks to see if it lived up to the expectations set both online and among my colleagues. The learning curve is quite steep, and you need to quickly familiarize yourself with the various controls to use it properly. There are still certain fundamental aspects hidden in the digital menus, such as ensuring that image stabilization is always turned on. However, this doesn’t overshadow the quality of the photographs it produces, which are truly impressive. I’ve managed to capture stunning portraits, landscapes, and architectural photos, and I feel like this camera should have been my first choice when starting my photography journey. There is so much that can be controlled and explored that I genuinely feel empowered by the possibilities it offers. I’m keeping my fingers crossed, hoping that Santa, or a traveling philanthropist, delivers one to my home this Christmas.
