Sony will stop offering the free PlayStation Camera adapter for PS VR on PS5.

Sony has decided to stop providing a free adapter that allows the PlayStation Camera to connect to the PS5. This accessory is necessary for those who wish to use the original model of PlayStation VR.

Sony will soon stop offering the free adapter that allows players to connect the PlayStation Camera to their PS5. This camera, originally launched for PS4, is necessary to use the first model of PlayStation VR on the current console, as the headset uses a light-based tracking method. It's important to note that the PS5's HD camera is not compatible with PS VR.

According to information provided on a support page, the PlayStation Camera adapter will no longer be available starting November 26, 2024, or until supplies run out. In the meantime, you can request an adapter through a form. Alternatively, you can also contact Sony support at 1-800-345-7669, having the serial number of the PS VR processing unit handy to claim the adapter.

If you can't obtain this accessory from Sony, there are third-party options available, but this official adapter is free. It's important to remember that PS VR games are not compatible with PS VR2, primarily because the headsets use different tracking methods. Although some titles have been adapted for the new headset and other virtual reality platforms, many games, including several first-party titles, remain exclusive to the original PS VR. Therefore, if you want to play titles like Astro Bot Rescue Mission or Everybody's Golf VR on your PS5, you will need the PS Camera adapter.
