Sony updates its headphones and earbuds for Google's Find My app.

The best Sony headphones and earbuds for 2024 are now compatible with Google's "Find My Device" network, making it easier to locate them in case you lose them.

Sony has released an update for its premium headphone models, the WF-1000XM5 and WH-1000XM5, which allows both devices to connect to Google's "Find My Device" network. This update is available in the new Sony Sound Connect app, which replaces the previous Headphones Connect app.

It's important to note that the update process can be quite lengthy: around 40 minutes on Android devices and up to an hour on iPhones. Therefore, it's recommended to undertake this process when one can dedicate the necessary time and attention to avoid going out of range during the transfer. This update not only adds compatibility with Google's network but also incorporates Google Fast Pair and Auto Switch, allowing for automatic switching between devices, although the exact functionality has not yet been tested by users.

Additionally, it is mentioned that the WH-1000XM5 will also receive a security update. Once the installation is completed, users will be able to use the Find My Device app to locate their devices, which will even emit a sound, although this may not be very effective since the headphones are designed to be heard only when in use.

After the update, the headphones will be on version 2.3.1 and the buds on version 4.0.2. This improvement underscores why these devices have been recognized on various lists as some of the best on the market this year.
