Sega seems to be developing a new Virtua Fighter game.

Virtua Fighter might be about to return to the spotlight.

A new game in the Virtua Fighter series may be on its way soon. In a recent interview, Justin Scarpone, global transmedia lead at Sega, casually revealed that they are developing a new title in this franchise. "We have a number of titles in development right now that fall into that legacy category, which we announced last year at The Game Awards," he stated. He mentioned examples such as Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage, Shinobi, and, in addition, a new Virtua Fighter.

This news is truly exciting. Most of the franchises mentioned were presented during The Game Awards, signaling a new direction for Sega. However, the mention of Virtua Fighter stands out as a recent revelation. The last numbered installment in the series was Virtua Fighter 5, released in 2006. While the fighting game franchise has not remained inactive since then, with versions like Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown in 2015 and Virtua Fighter Ultimate Showdown in 2021, it has been nearly 20 years since fans enjoyed a completely new game.

Beyond this casual confirmation that Sega is working on a new chapter, there is still no concrete information on what Virtua Fighter 6 might offer. Iconic characters like Akira Yuki are likely to return, but there are many possibilities regarding the characters and mechanics that could be introduced.
