My five dream games for Nintendo Switch 2 that I hope to see at launch.
I would even accept a release within the first year.
After its official reveal earlier this month, anticipation for the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 has grown significantly. Although a specific date has yet to be set, it has been confirmed that it will be available sometime in 2025, and many believe it could launch before the middle of the year. However, the launch is not the only mystery, as Nintendo has kept a low profile regarding the games that will be available at the new console's debut.
During the announcement trailer, one particular game was showcased: a new installment of Mario Kart. This contrasts with the variety of titles seen during the first presentation of the original Nintendo Switch. A special Nintendo Switch 2 Direct will soon take place, raising expectations for a possible reveal of more games, while fans speculate about what titles could be on the way.
There are certain games I would love to see from day one that would be reason enough to pre-order the Nintendo Switch 2 as soon as sales begin. Some of them could even be released within the first year of the console. Below, I share my five dream games for the Nintendo Switch 2.
-
Final Fantasy 7 Remake
This title is undoubtedly one of the most likely candidates for a port on the new console. There have been rumors about its arrival, and it would be an excellent way to showcase the system's capabilities. The port of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim had already impressed on the original Nintendo Switch, demonstrating the viability of such an extensive RPG on a handheld console. The Final Fantasy 7 Remake version could capture that same magic, being a lengthy game perfect for keeping players engaged at launch, in addition to its visual appeal. -
A new 3D Mario game
Since the release of Super Mario Odyssey in 2017, there has been no information about a sequel. The hope is that Nintendo is preparing something special for the Nintendo Switch 2. Mario titles are often among the most acclaimed, and having one available from the start would be a significant boost for the new console. It’s unclear exactly what this new game could be like, but Nintendo's constant reinvention of the series generates a lot of excitement. -
1-2 Switch 2
Although the original game wasn't perfect, it showcased the functionalities of the first Nintendo Switch. With the new changes in the Joy-Con, a true successor to 1-2 Switch could be a good introduction to these features. A title like this could pave the way for the console to connect with a more casual audience. -
Splatoon 4
A new Splatoon title tops my list for a simple reason: if the new Joy-Con can function like a mouse, it would provide a significant advantage in shooting games. Enhanced control usage could help balance gameplay and demonstrate the utility of this feature rather than it just being a gimmick. -
Tomodachi Life
The absence of more experimental titles has been noticeable in the last generation of consoles. Reinventing Tomodachi Life for the Nintendo Switch 2 could help bring back that unique creativity. The goal would not just be a simple port, but a version that includes new social features to enhance user experience.
The excitement for the Nintendo Switch 2 lies in the anticipation of new titles and innovative experiences. What would be your ideal games for this new console?
