Meta's Projects on Artificial Intelligence, Smart Glasses, and the Metaverse.
In the latest episode of The Vergecast, the future of Meta and Sonos is discussed, exploring the possible directions and strategies these companies might take.
Meta is firmly committed to artificial intelligence, and this is understandable. With models like Llama, innovative products such as Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, and a monetization plan through ads on Facebook, the company positions itself as one of the best equipped to implement AI effectively. However, it wasn't long ago that Meta was making a significant bet on the metaverse, which is actually reflected in its own name. This raises the question: what does Meta really want to be in its future?
In a recent episode of The Vergecast, this question was explored in depth, featuring Alex Heath, who shared insights on various topics, from sales figures of smart glasses to CEO Mark Zuckerberg's plan to revitalize "OG Facebook." A recent memo from CTO Andrew Bosworth was also discussed, suggesting that the year 2025 will be crucial in determining whether the metaverse takes off or collapses. Amidst these transformations, Zuckerberg has been forced to adjust his company's political stances and to express his own values more clearly. While Meta has been in constant evolution, this series of changes seems more significant than previous alterations.
The program also turned to another company undergoing an even deeper transformation: Sonos. Chris Welch from The Verge highlighted the company's last year, characterized by the launch of good-quality headphones but also by the introduction of a new app that was so problematic it overshadowed the rest of Sonos's products. Currently, the company has new management and is about to unveil a new product line, raising many questions about whether it will be able to win back the followers it recently lost.
Finally, in the segment known as Vergecast Hotline, a question about business cards was answered. Even though we are in 2025, these cards seem to resist disappearing, prompting the need to find new uses for them.
