Mario Kart World takes speed beyond the track.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct event did not begin with information about the hardware, as anticipated, but instead focused on providing an in-depth look at the new Mario Kart World.
The new installment of Nintendo’s renowned racing series, Mario Kart World, is set to be released on June 5. This title introduces an exciting novelty by increasing the number of participants in races to 24, promising to multiply the fun and intensity of each competition. Despite the larger number of racers, iconic characters like Yoshi, Toad, and Peach will remain available for fans.
During the recent Nintendo Switch 2 Direct event, the hardware details many were expecting were not shared; instead, the focus was on revealing the features of the new Mario Kart World, which will be one of the launch titles for the console. The showcased trailer highlighted several new functionalities. One of the most interesting is the free exploration mode, allowing players to drive at will through various environments, perfect for enjoying with friends and taking photographs.
Additionally, a Knockout Tour mode will be introduced, where players must navigate multiple checkpoints on a course that can even take them from one side of the world to the other. In this mode, only a limited number of racers will be able to advance at each checkpoint, eliminating those who fall behind until only one competitor remains.
The classic Grand Prix mode will return to Mario Kart, now with a structure of seven thematic races, each with four circuits, allowing for 24 racers to compete at the same time. Weather conditions will also play a significant role, affecting track conditions and adding a new level of strategy.
The innovations don’t stop there; various race modes will be introduced, where participants can interact with the environment in new ways, such as sliding on rails or traversing snowy and watery surfaces with adapted bikes. Mario Kart World will be exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2, with more news anticipated on April 17.
On another note, Mario Kart enthusiasts will also be interested in a new LEGO set inspired by the franchise, available on May 15. This 1,972-piece set, featuring Mario in his iconic kart, is designed for more experienced builders and can be preordered. With an instruction booklet and support through the LEGO Builder app, this set adds to LEGO’s effort to attract an adult audience through more complex builds.
In commemoration of Mario Day, fans are invited to an event in Mario Kart 8, where the goal is to complete one million laps across various tracks. Those who participate will have the chance to win platinum points and enjoy a trial of Nintendo Switch Online.
