LG to Showcase Brighter OLED TVs at CES 2025 by Incorporating 33% More OLED Panels.
The year 2025 looks promising from now on.
LG is preparing to launch a new generation of OLED panels that promises to achieve a remarkable brightness of up to 3,700 nits. These panels are intended for the G-series models; however, they are not expected to be included in the brand's more affordable versions. Recently, it has been reported that this new OLED panel technology, which features an innovative additional layer of light, will go on sale this year.
According to an analysis of the display industry, it has been revealed that LG has been working on a four-layer OLED panel. This development could set a brightness standard significantly higher than the current three-layer panel in the brand's flagship televisions. Although LG Display, the panel manufacturer, had claimed that its latest model could reach 3,000 nits, the reality is that these levels were not achieved in practical use.
The manufacturer has already showcased this technology in a small demonstration during the IMID conference in South Korea, where it highlighted that not only will brightness increase by 25%, but the lifespan and energy efficiency of the panels will also improve. Although a specific launch date has not been finalized, the 2025 LG G5 model has already been leaked with a 165Hz screen and is registered in the Hong Kong electronic certification system, where its power consumption is listed as 132W for the 55-inch variant and 164W for the 65-inch variant. This consumption is approximately 20% lower compared to the equivalent G4 models.
The new panel technology is expected to be available soon, although LG Display is not listed among the companies attending CES 2025. However, LG will be present and is expected to reveal its new televisions at this event.
On the other hand, Samsung is also working on enhanced panels. According to the same industry analyst, it is anticipated that the QD-OLED panels for 2025/26 will further increase brightness, reaching between 3,600 and up to 4,000 nits. It seems that the race for dominance in OLED television technology is intensifying every day.
