The Juno app by Christian Selig for watching YouTube on the Vision Pro has been removed.

There is no official YouTube app for Vision Pro.

The unofficial YouTube app, Juno, designed specifically for the Apple Vision Pro, has been removed from the App Store. This decision came after a warning from Google regarding its non-compliance with YouTube's API and trademark policies. In a message posted by Christian Selig, the app's developer, it was noted that this removal occurred several months after Google highlighted the violations.

Currently, there is no official YouTube app for the Vision Pro, which restricts users to accessing the platform through the Safari browser. This causes videos to play using Apple's native video player. Although Google mentioned back in February that an official app for the Vision Pro was on its roadmap, there have been no updates since then.

Selig created Juno earlier this year to fill this gap, offering features such as viewing videos in 360-degree or 180-degree formats, pinch-and-drag scrolling options, and integrating Siri commands to control playback. Juno functioned as a sort of "web wrapper" for YouTube, similar to a browser extension, and did not block ads.

Although Selig claimed that Juno did not use the YouTube API, YouTube's legal team contacted him in April, informing him that the app was in violation of the API's terms of service and also referenced YouTube's branding and iconography. Following this notice, Selig removed the YouTube logo from Juno's homepage and added the term "unofficial" to its subtitle and description in the App Store.

Despite his efforts to clarify the situation with YouTube, Selig failed to reach an agreement and ultimately received a message from Apple informing him about Juno's removal from the store. While he does not plan to contest the decision, as he did with his Apollo app for Reddit, he has indicated that users who already own Juno will still be able to use it unless they delete the app or YouTube implements an update that prevents its functionality.

The removal of Juno represents a loss for Vision Pro owners who used the app to enjoy virtual reality videos, as there are no other comparable alternatives in the market. However, users still have the option to watch YouTube content through a floating CRT TV.
