Jackery's new solar panels are indistinguishable from your roof's.
The presentation of Jackery's new whole-house energy system at CES 2025 represents a significant advancement in the field of solar energy for consumers.
Solar installations in homes are often associated with traditional photovoltaic panels, which are generally square and black. While these are functional, their aesthetics may not be the most appealing, especially in communities with strict homeowners' association regulations. Jackery's option, the Solar Roof, presents itself as a visually pleasing alternative, resembling terracotta tiles. With a conversion rate exceeding 25%, this system surpasses the typical efficiency of solar panels, which ranges from 15% to 22%.
In addition to its appearance, the panels of the Solar Roof are more durable than a conventional roof; they are impact and hail-resistant, and come with a 30-year warranty, whereas the average lifespan of a standard roof is only 20 years. This system is just part of the HomePower Energy System, which allows for a reduction in energy costs by storing solar energy for later use and decreasing reliance on the electrical grid. Although the initial installation may be costly, averaging between $7,000 and $20,000, those planning to stay in their homes for a decade or more are likely to see a return on their investment.
The battery sizes in this system range from 7.7kWh to 15.4kWh, reaching up to a maximum of 123.2kWh per inverter. Another vital component is the HomePower Hub, which manages energy loading, distributing electricity to different areas of the home according to real-time needs, with an energy transfer time of less than 10 milliseconds.
The Jackery Solar Generator 5000 completes the system, although it is not portable in the conventional sense; its transportation requires a dolly. This generator can provide up to 14,400W of power, and by combining two units, the entire ecosystem can deliver a whopping capacity of 60kWh, while the average daily consumption of a household is about half that amount.
Installing a solar system results in immediate benefits, but it is advisable to consider it more as a long-term investment. Over time, the system can recoup its initial cost, and the extensive warranty covers most potential damages. It is also important to research potential tax credits that may be available when investing in solar energy.
