It is rumored again that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be the only iPhone model in 2025 with 12GB of RAM.

Leaks in the supply chain.

With the launch of the iPhone 16 now complete, speculation about the next model, the iPhone 17, has begun to emerge. Recent rumors suggest that the Pro Max model of this new device will be the only one in the series to feature 12 GB of RAM, while the iPhone 17 Pro will retain the 8 GB found in all current models from 2024.

This rumor comes from reliable sources, Yeux1122 and @Jukanlosreve, who suggest that due to issues in Samsung's memory module production line, there may be a shortage of the necessary components for the millions of iPhone 17 Pro units that Apple plans to order, as well as for the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

This is not a new concept; respected analysts like Ming-Chi Kuo have already hinted that only the iPhone 17 Pro Max would have 12 GB of RAM, although he did not detail the reasons behind this decision.

The recent discussion about the RAM of the iPhone 17 Pro indicates that there is an interest in this memory, as it is crucial for Apple's artificial intelligence performance. It could be that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will outperform other models in the series in AI tasks, justifying the addition of extra RAM.

Regarding the current models, the iPhone 16 comes with 8 GB of RAM, an increase from the 6 GB offered by the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus. As the typical launch date in September approaches, speculation continues, including the possibility that the iPhone 16 Plus may be replaced by a new iPhone 17 Air, which would feature a slimmer design.
