It is reported that a new series of controllers for GameCube is being developed.
Or a GameCube games library for Nintendo Switch Online?
It is rumored that Nintendo may be developing a new series of GameCube controllers. This speculation arises from a user on ResetEra, who shared information about component shipments that apparently would be intended for a new product for the Nintendo Switch 2, possibly a GameCube controller.
Data miner LuigiBlood was the first to uncover the potential arrival of a new GameCube controller earlier this year. However, user RandomlyRandom67 points out that hardware production is already underway. This user highlights that there are several components that match those of current GameCube controllers, such as the LED light covers and triggers.
One of the standout features is the shipments of the TRW1230 vibration motor, which is supposedly related to an unannounced Nintendo controller known as project HGU0480. This vibration motor is the same one used in current GameCube controllers and in the Nintendo Switch Online controller for Nintendo 64.
Recently, Nintendo announced that it will conduct a playtest on October 24 for a mysterious new feature of Nintendo Switch Online. While there is no official confirmation at this time, it is possible that news about a new GameCube controller is linked to a future library of GameCube games for Switch Online, thus expanding the subscription service.
Currently, the Switch Online service allows subscribers to access a selection of games from the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance, so the inclusion of GameCube seems like a logical step.
Even if these new GameCube controllers are not intended for the Switch Online library, they could be in production for the Nintendo Switch 2. So far, Nintendo has not revealed details about its upcoming handheld console, but it is expected to announce the release date before the end of 2024, with a launch anticipated in 2025.
