Introducing the new OpenAI logo.

Can you find the difference?

OpenAI has undergone a complete rebranding, which includes a new logo, renewed typography, and a color palette, as explained in an interview about the transformation process. While one must pay attention to notice the differences between the redesigned logo and the previous one, a side-by-side comparison reveals that the new design, named "blossom," features slightly more space in the center and cleaner lines.

The original logo was created by Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, and co-founder Ilya Sutskever. This time, an internal design team, led by Veit Moeller and Shannon Jager, took on the responsibility for the redesign, aiming to create a "more organic and human" identity.

As part of this rebranding process, OpenAI introduced a new typeface called OpenAI sans, which, according to statements, “combines geometric precision and functionality with a rounded and accessible character.” This font is now used in OpenAI branding, where the letter "O" has a perfectly rounded exterior and an imperfect interior, aiming to counteract robotic precision and achieve a more human appearance, according to Moeller.

When asked if OpenAI used its AI-powered tools, such as ChatGPT, to create the new designs, Moeller clarified that they were only employed to assist in calculating different typographic weights. Designers from OpenAI stated, "we collaborated with experts in photography, typography, motion design, and spatial design, while integrating AI tools like DALL·E, ChatGPT, and Sora as thought partners." This dual approach, which combines human intuition with the generative potential of AI, allows for the creation of a brand that is not only innovative but deeply human.
