Huawei has unveiled new open earbuds with IP57 water resistance certification, which could be a great offering for 2025.

If you're considering the Powerbeats Pro 2 but want them to have a complete waterproof rating, check out the FreeArc.

Huawei has introduced its new open-ear headphones, the FreeArc, which feature dust and water resistance rated at IP57. These headphones represent the company's second offering in this format, following the launch of the FreeClip in December 2023, but it is the first time they implement a 'shell' design that fits the ear without completely covering the ear canal.

One of the most notable features of the FreeArc is their accessible price, set at £99, although they can be purchased for £75 with a quick buy. Some points to consider are their resilience capabilities, as they are guaranteed to survive immersion in one meter of water for half an hour.

The open-ear headphone category, especially those designed for sports, is booming, with an impressive annual growth rate of 600%. Huawei has capitalized on this trend, supported by its significant investment in research and development, including a facility with a wind tunnel lab and a team of over 1,000 audio engineers.

The design of the FreeArc is based on a "C-bridge design," which combines optimal gravitational balance with data from over 10,000 ear curves. Each earbud weighs just 8.3 grams and utilizes a high-sensitivity driver unit, along with a battery pack located behind the ear.

Another positive aspect is the signal stability, with a dual-antenna design allowing a connection range of up to 100 meters indoors and 400 meters outdoors, enabling users to leave their phones in the locker room during training. Although the Bluetooth 5.2 chip only supports SBC and AAC codecs, this does not significantly affect the user experience.

Additionally, the FreeArc is equipped with an AI algorithm for noise reduction during calls and offers competitive battery life, reaching up to seven hours of continuous use, or 28 hours with the charging case. To top it off, they also include touch gestures on the earbud for volume adjustments.

The headphones are available for pre-order starting February 18 in black, gray, and green, with a £25 discount until March 3. The official product line launch is scheduled for March 4, offering an additional £20 promotion until April 1.
