How to Translate a Message in Instagram Direct Messages
It is surprisingly simple.
If you've received a direct message on Instagram in a language you don't master, it’s likely you found it tedious to have to copy the text, open a browser, and use an online translator to understand it. However, Instagram has introduced a feature that allows users to translate messages directly in their DMs, streamlining communication.
This feature, introduced in February, enables people to stay connected with friends and family around the world, removing language barriers. With this tool, you can translate received messages without having to leave the app, making it easier to interact with those who are far away, regardless of the language they speak.
To translate a message within Instagram DMs, you only need a phone and the Instagram app. Here are the steps to use this feature:
-
Select the message: Press and hold the message you want to translate. A menu will appear with several options, including "reply," "forward," "copy," "create AI image," "translate," "pin," "delete for you," and "report."
-
Click on "translate": When you choose the "translate" option, a message will appear the first time you perform this action. This message indicates that the translation will be shared with Meta to provide the translation service. If you decide to continue, press "OK."
-
View the translated message: After clicking "translate," the translated text will appear below the original message. For example, if your friend sends you the lyrics of a song in Spanish, such as "debí tirar más fotos," you will see the translation "should have taken more pictures" right below.
It is important to note that this feature is currently not available in the desktop version of Instagram, although it can be used on iOS and Android devices.
