Govee heaters recalled due to fire and burn risk.

A recall has been issued for several models of Govee heaters sold on Amazon and TikTok due to a potential fire and burn hazard.

Families have started pulling out space heaters to face the cold, but if you own a Govee heater, you may want to consider an alternative. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), along with Govee, has issued a voluntary recall affecting more than 500,000 Govee and GoveeLife smart electric heaters. These devices do not comply with the UL 1278 safety standard, indicating a risk of overheating and fire due to their wireless controls. The announcement was made on November 7.

The models involved in this alert include H7130, H7130101, H7131, H7132, H7133, H7134, and H7135. Users can find these numbers on the label at the bottom of the device. All affected heaters have the “GoveeLife” or “Govee” brand printed somewhere on their side. If your heater is among those affected, the CPSC recommends discontinuing its use immediately due to the fire risk it poses. Additionally, users can contact Govee to request a refund via the official product recall website.

Customers who purchased these heaters through Amazon may have already received an email regarding the product recall. It is advisable to read this email carefully to know how to proceed with the return or disposal of the heater. Most of the affected models were sold on Amazon, the Govee Home app, and the TikTok store between September 2021 and September 2024. According to the recall information, 113 incidents of overheating have been reported, including seven cases of fires and one report of a minor burn.

It is crucial to pay attention to heater safety during this time of year, as they are associated with over 20,000 annual fires. In addition to removing recalled products from the market, it is vital to take precautions when using these devices, such as turning them off while sleeping, not using them with extension cords, and ensuring there are no flammable materials nearby. Heaters can be a great way to save on heating costs during the winter, but only if used properly.
