Google expands AI visions to over 100 new countries.

Google announced on Monday that it is expanding its AI Summary feature to search results pages in seven languages and over 100 countries.

Google has decided to expand its AI Overview feature, which provides AI-generated summaries to help users better understand the topics they search for in its search engine. This announcement was made recently, and the functionality will be available in over 100 countries and in seven languages, including English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

The AI Overview feature was initially introduced in May under the name Search Generative Experience, and after a trial period with mixed feedback, the company decided to adopt it as its default search experience in May 2024. However, users have expressed concerns about the accuracy of the information provided, with examples of unusual and dangerous advice, such as ingesting rocks or adding non-toxic glue to certain recipes.

Despite these initial issues, Google continued to develop the feature and later expanded its availability to other countries such as the UK, Brazil, and Mexico. The company has noted that users who access results with AI Overviews end up visiting a greater variety of websites and spending more time on them.

Recently, paid advertisements have been integrated into the AI Overview results, and new functionalities have been enabled, allowing users to ask questions about moving objects in videos. Although the company insists that this evolution could transform online search, it remains to be seen whether AI Overview will be viewed as a revolutionary tool or if it might fall out of favor, as has happened with less appreciated features in the past.
