Google adds real-time information from the AP Agency to Gemini.
Google is partnering with The Associated Press to provide real-time news information to Gemini.
Google has established a collaboration with The Associated Press to integrate real-time information from the news agency into its Gemini app, as announced on Wednesday. The financial details of this partnership have not been disclosed. This agreement complements a previous partnership between Google and The Associated Press to obtain updated information for its search engine.
Google has stated that this new integration will be especially beneficial for users of the Gemini app, who will have access to updated information. Kristin Heitmann, executive vice president and chief revenue officer of The Associated Press, highlighted that the long-standing relationship between the agency and Google is based on a mutual commitment to delivering accurate and timely news to audiences worldwide. She also expressed satisfaction with Google’s recognition of the value of AP journalism and its dedication to impartial reporting, especially in the development of generative artificial intelligence products.
In 2023, The Associated Press positioned itself as one of the first news publishers to establish a connection with an AI company by signing a two-year agreement with OpenAI that provided access to selected news content from 1985. Subsequently, several other publishers have followed this model through their own collaborations. Recently, Axios announced a three-year agreement with OpenAI, in which funds will be allocated to launch four new local newsrooms. The previous year, OpenAI had also established a partnership with Dotdash Meredith, the publisher of People, a deal that could amount to over $16 million annually.
