Doom continues to be everywhere: it is now possible to play it in PDF format.

Doom is considered a cult game, not only for its longevity but also because it can be played almost anywhere.

Doom has established itself as an iconic game that can be installed and played in virtually any environment. Recently, a high school student has taken this premise to the extreme by making the iconic 1993 title playable directly from a PDF file. Using the pseudonym ading2210 on GitHub, this young programmer, passionate about web development and cybersecurity, has created DoomPDF, a port of the famous game that runs in a PDF document.

However, there is a small limitation: to play it, a PDF reader that supports JavaScript is required, a requirement that is typically only met by Adobe Acrobat and browsers like Chromium. Additionally, the creator of this project was inspired by a PDF version of Tetris, called PDFtris, developed by Thomas Rinsma.

Over the years, Doom has been played in very unconventional circumstances and devices. For example, it has been enjoyed in a Porsche 911, displaying the game on the car's central screen; on a smartwatch, both on Apple Watch and Android Wear; and there have even been unusual celebrations, like playing on a plate of soup, to commemorate the franchise's 30th anniversary. Doom has also been successfully executed on devices that should be secure, such as bank machines.
