Fujifilm hints at the release of a medium format version of its popular compact camera X100 VI.

Fujifilm seems to be hinting at the release of a new camera that could combine the style of its X100 series with a medium format sensor.

Fujifilm is developing a new camera model that could combine the distinctive features of its medium format cameras, such as the GFX 100S II, with the popular X100 series. This information was revealed through a teaser shared in a recently released video. In the clip titled "The X Summit in Prague will be special, Fujifilm family🇨🇿," a person is seen showcasing an XV100 VI and a GFX 100S II, visually merging both cameras, before the image shifts to the silhouette of a new model that the company plans to announce.

The proposal indicates that Fujifilm aims to create a device that integrates the qualities of the X100 series, which is more compact and features fixed lenses, while simultaneously leveraging the advantages of a medium format sensor. From the brief preview in the video, it seems that the new camera will be larger and have a squarer shape compared to the X100 VI, in addition to having a smaller lens than one would typically expect on the GFX 100S II. This generates positive expectations for those looking to enhance their photography after being attracted by one of the X100 cameras.

The X100 V was a huge success for Fujifilm, becoming a favorite on social media platforms due to its size, design, and ability to digitally simulate various types of analog film. The X100 VI, launched in 2024 to leverage its popularity, added features like in-body stabilization and a lower native ISO. It is undoubtedly an exceptional camera.

We will have to wait until Fujifilm's X Summit on March 20 to find out if this new model can achieve the same crossover popularity, but the company’s track record is promising.
