Christopher Nolan is currently in Europe filming his new movie, The Odyssey. With a large cast, the production features prominent Hollywood actors, including Matt Damon, who will portray Odysseus, the heroic Greek character facing various challenges on his journey home after the Trojan War. Although the roles of other actors have not been officially confirmed, various rumors about the cast have emerged in Greek media.
Among the names mentioned are Tom Holland as Telemachus, Odysseus' son; Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Odysseus' wife; Lupita Nyong'o as Clytemnestra, the wife of Agamemnon; Benny Safdie playing Agamemnon, the commander of the Greek forces; Charlize Theron as Circe, a sorceress goddess; and Zendaya as Athena, a goddess who serves as a mentor to Odysseus. So far, Universal has not confirmed these character assignments.
Recently, Tom Holland was spotted on the set of The Odyssey, where he was photographed with Nolan on a ship as they prepared to shoot a scene. Additionally, the cast includes Robert Pattinson, Jon Bernthal, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Jesse Garcia, Will Yun Lee, Rafi Gavron, Shiloh Fernandez, Mia Goth, Corey Hawkins, Nick E. Tarabay, Jimmy Gonzales, Maurie Compte, Michael Vlamis, Iddo Goldberg, Josh Stewart, and Cosmo Jarvis, among others.
Nolan is both the writer and director of this adaptation based on Homer’s epic poem. It is rumored that the budget for The Odyssey amounts to approximately $250 million, making it one of the most expensive productions in Nolan's career. The film will be shot around the world using cutting-edge IMAX technology. The Odyssey is set to premiere in theaters on July 17, 2026.
