The Ghost of Yōtei

The journey of Atsu

Ghost of Yōtei has been announced as the next installment in the Ghost of Tsushima series, set over 300 years after the first game. While it is not a direct sequel, the connection between the two titles is still unclear. Players are expected to enjoy the same action and stealth gameplay, along with stunning visual quality that captivated audiences since its initial release in 2020. This time, the experience will be fully next-gen, specifically designed for the PS5.

It has been confirmed that Ghost of Yōtei will be released in 2025, although details are still limited. The main uncertainty lies in whether this new title will be related in any way to its predecessor and how gameplay will have evolved, especially with the incorporation of firearms. Developer Sucker Punch has shared a glimpse of the gameplay and some details about the new game environment, which has generated high expectations, even for a possible version for PS5 Pro.

So far, only one trailer has been shown, which was presented during the Sony State of Play event on September 24, 2024. It features Atsu, the new protagonist, who explores breathtaking landscapes and faces enemies while wearing a Ghost mask. The preview mixes cinematic sequences with gameplay, and more details are expected to be revealed in the future.

Regarding gameplay, what has been shown so far is limited, with footage displaying Atsu in various beautiful environments. The character will use a Ghost mask, suggesting that she continues the legacy of Jin Sakai. This implies that stealth will remain a key part of the gameplay, complemented by tools and new abilities, in addition to the use of firearms as an important element in Atsu's arsenal.

The plot of Ghost of Yōtei is set in 1603, keeping the setting around Mount Yōtei, an impressive peak in the Ezo region, now known as Hokkaido in Japan. Although the story is loosely based on historical events, it is presented as an original narrative. Vast landscapes are anticipated, including prairies, snowy tundras, and lush forests.

For now, pre-orders for the game are not available, but they are likely to be enabled once the official release date is disclosed. Atsu is a new character in the story, and while she appears to be connected to Jin Sakai, many of her details remain unknown.

So far, it has not been confirmed whether Ghost of Yōtei will take advantage of the PS5 Pro's capabilities, although it is expected that a PlayStation-exclusive title will effectively utilize the available enhancements.
