Comcast launches free annual internet speed increases for Xfinity.

Many Xfinity subscribers have experienced double the upload speed they had before, thanks to Comcast's annual upgrades.

Comcast has decided to increase the speeds of its Xfinity internet service at no additional cost for many of its users, and is already implementing the corresponding upgrades for 2025. Most subscribers will enjoy a doubling of their upload speeds, while others will experience a 50 percent increase.

While this is a positive advancement, it is important to highlight that fiber optic technology generally offers download and upload speeds that are equivalent. For example, services like Google Fiber and Verizon Fios provide symmetrical or nearly symmetrical speeds.

In addition to improving upload speeds, download speeds are also increasing for most Xfinity plans. The Gigabit x2 plan, for instance, will receive a boost of 100 Mbps, reaching 2.1 Gbps. However, the other plans, such as the 300 Mbps plan, will maintain their current download speeds.

The company estimates that more than 20 million customers will benefit from these free updates, and aims to provide a 2 Gbps service to more than 50 million homes and businesses by the end of this year.

As part of these upgrades, new and existing Xfinity customers can take advantage of an additional offer. Those who sign up for a plan with speeds of 400 Mbps or higher will enjoy an unlimited Xfinity Mobile line at no extra cost for one year.

Below are the speed increases:

| Xfinity Tier | Previous Download/Upload Speed (Mbps) | New Download/Upload Speed (Mbps) | |----------------------|---------------------------------------|-----------------------------------| | NOW | 100/10 | 100/20 | | NOW200 | 200/10 | 200/20 | | Connect 150 | 150/100 | 150/150 | | Connect More | 300/100 | 400/150 | | Fast | 500/100 | 600/150 | | Superfast | 800/100 | 800/150 | | Gigabit | 1,000/150 | 1,100/300 | | Gigabit x2 | 2,000/300 | 2,100/300 |
