ChatGPT Enables Scheduling Reminders and Recurring Tasks.

OpenAI's ChatGPT paid users now have the option to ask the AI assistant to set reminders or recurring requests. This new beta feature, called tasks, will begin to roll out.

Paid users of ChatGPT from OpenAI can now request the artificial intelligence assistant to schedule reminders or recurring requests. This new beta feature, known as "tasks," will begin rolling out this week to ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Pro subscribers worldwide. With "tasks," users will be able to set simple reminders, such as “Remind me when my passport expires in six months,” and the assistant will send a notification through the platform where they have tasks enabled.

Additionally, it is now possible to schedule recurring requests, such as “Every Friday, give me a weekend plan based on my location and the weather forecast,” or “Provide me with a news summary every day at 7 a.m.” The task management feature can be accessed from the ChatGPT dropdown menu. By selecting “4o with scheduled tasks,” users can send a message indicating what reminder or action they wish to create. Sometimes, the assistant may suggest certain tasks based on previous conversations.

Users can manage their tasks through a dedicated tab in the web application or via chat on any platform. This functionality allows ChatGPT to browse the internet on a set schedule, although it will not perform continuous background searches or purchase products. For example, one could instruct ChatGPT to check monthly for ticket availability for a concert, but it will not be able to schedule an alert to immediately notify when tickets are available or purchase them.

This is a preliminary step towards more autonomous systems, known as artificial intelligence agents. OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, asserts that 2025 will be a key year for these agents, which could "integrate into the workforce." Although the tasks feature is a limited version, it provides functionalities that many users expect from digital assistants like Siri or Alexa.

OpenAI also plans to leverage this beta period to learn about task usage before making the feature more accessible in its mobile app and the free version of ChatGPT. However, during the beta launch, it is not possible to set tasks through Advanced Voice Mode. Despite significant advancements, AI assistants still face challenges in performing simple tasks that smartphones handle easily.

The company is preparing to launch more advanced systems, including a functionality called Operator, which would be capable of writing code and making travel reservations, and this is expected to be available in the coming weeks. However, the introduction of more complex systems could lead to new issues as OpenAI implements more independent capabilities for its artificial intelligence.
