Bluesky reaches the top spot in the App Store as users leave Elon Musk's X.
Threads ranks second, while Musk's platform, X, does not appear among the top 20.
Elon Musk has had a triumphant week following the elections, but his social media platform, X, is not performing well on mobile app charts. Competitors like Bluesky and Threads have seen a notable increase in popularity on Apple's App Store after the recent elections. Bluesky appears to be the big winner, as many users have opted to leave X, citing Musk's support for Trump and the use of X as a campaign tool as determining factors in their decision. Currently, Bluesky holds the top spot as the number one free app in the U.S. App Store, having surpassed 15 million users, with approximately 100,000 new sign-ups daily since the elections.
Meanwhile, Threads, which is closely integrated with Instagram and belongs to Mark Zuckerberg's Meta, is in second place on the App Store. In contrast, X, formerly known as Twitter, is far behind at the 27th position in these rankings. A significant number of X users are clearly searching for an alternative to Musk's platform.
While Musk might not be too concerned about this situation after gaining notable influence with the new Trump administration, the App Store rankings have been a constant interest for him. He has bragged that X reached the top spot in the News category on the U.S. and international App Store charts. However, it should be noted that X faces little competition in the News category, as most apps in this section belong to traditional media like the New York Times or Fox News. In terms of social media, most of these apps are ranked in the more competitive Social Networking category. A top position in this category also implies a top position in the overall App Store ranking, which is currently held by Bluesky. In contrast, X holds the top spot in News, which merely translates to a 27th position overall.
