Apple, Tesla, and Spotify: The Tech Announcements That Didn't Happen in 2024.

They thought we wouldn't notice. However, we did.

The year 2024 brought with it a surge in technology, highlighting the advancement of artificial intelligence as one of the most promising developments since the advent of the internet. Throughout the year, numerous innovative devices were introduced, such as laptops, phones, tablets, and electric vehicles, as well as some interesting robots. However, there were also a series of products and services that promised to arrive in 2024 but did not materialize, being postponed to 2025 and later years.

One of the most notable aspects of this delay is Apple's development of the new generation of CarPlay. This system promises to be "the ultimate iPhone experience in the car," fully integrating with the vehicle's interface and enhancing interaction between the car and the device. Although the current version of CarPlay is functional, it is still perceived as somewhat isolated from the rest of the car's system, leading to high expectations for this new generation. Apple had announced that the first vehicles equipped with this version were set to arrive in 2024, but that date has passed and no results have been seen. New versions of CarPlay are expected to arrive soon, possibly starting with Porsche models.

Another promise that remained unfulfilled was Spotify's Hi-Fi subscription, which was first announced in February 2021. Three years later, the company continues to assert that this option is on the way, although no specific launch date has been provided. Recently, Spotify's CEO, Daniel Ek, mentioned that a "deluxe version of Spotify" will be launched that will offer "better sound," but without clarifying when it will be available.

In the automotive realm, Tesla also failed to meet several promises for 2024. The company's CEO, Elon Musk, had mentioned that an affordable $25,000 car and the Robotaxi, an autonomous vehicle that carries passengers, would be ready by 2024. However, both projects have been delayed, with the new date for the Robotaxi now set for 2026. Additionally, the Full Self-Driving (FSD) version that would allow vehicles to operate without human intervention has also been rescheduled for 2025, despite initially being promised for an earlier release.
