Android 16 will arrive with 5 improvements for your phone, including one that I'm looking forward to trying!

A new mode for the camera, tricks for Google Wallet, and other updates.

Google has begun distributing the second beta version of Android 16, which is available for some Pixel devices, such as the Pixel 6 and its newer models. Although the final release date for Android 16 has not yet been confirmed, it is expected to be launched later this year.

This new beta of Android brings an interesting set of features, including tools for the camera, real-time notifications, and a new shortcut for Google Wallet. Google’s developer blog has posted entries about the beta versions, highlighting the new features for both users and developers. The internal name for Android 16 is Baklava, which suggests that an update with various layers of functionalities is being prepared.

Among the most notable features are:

  1. New camera tools: Android 16 introduces a hybrid automatic exposure mode, allowing users to manually adjust ISO and exposure time while the device manages the exposure. Support for Ultra HDR images is also included, along with a new API that enables third-party applications to recognize when to activate night mode. Additionally, support for the professional video codec titled Advanced Professional Video is included.

  2. Shortcut for Google Wallet: With this beta, the option to open the Google Wallet app by double-pressing the power button has been added, replacing the previous function that opened the camera on most Android devices. This feature will be useful for users when making quick payments.

  3. Improvements in app resizing: Android 16 will facilitate the resizing of apps for tablets and foldable phones, removing restrictions on the size and orientation of apps on larger screens. This will provide a better experience for users of devices with wide displays.

  4. Real-time notifications: The upcoming version will include a new type of notification, Live Updates, which will allow users to follow events and updates in real-time from the lock screen. This feature aims to enhance the tracking of activities, such as ridesharing services and food delivery.

  5. Gemini Extensions: Although not much detail has been provided, the Gemini Extensions, which initially arrived with Samsung's Galaxy S25 series, are expected to expand to more Android phones. These extensions will allow Google Assistant to run applications on the phone to perform more complex tasks.

Thus, Android 16 promises to bring several significant innovations to enhance the user experience on mobile devices.
