A Sega account can provide you with benefits, in-game items, and much more.
The new Sega account system offers newly registered users a free outfit in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, which could hint at a future platform similar to Game Pass.
Sega has launched a new platform that allows users to create a SEGA account, similar to the options already available on systems like Xbox, PlayStation, and Blizzard. This initiative offers initial benefits, starting with a costume for the game Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. The company disclosed the details through an announcement on its website, explaining the advantages of this account: "By creating a SEGA Account, you will receive the latest news about games, events, and promotions from SEGA/ATLUS. Additionally, your account grants you access to exclusive bonuses and the option to link accounts across various gaming platforms."
Although the communication is brief, it suggests that more functionality will be added in the near future. The first costume that users will receive is the same one given when signing up for Sega's mailing list and will be available to those who create their account before March 7. No hints have been provided about other potential benefits, but it is expected that they may include something akin to a "supply box," similar to what Phantasy Star Online 2 players receive through Prime Gaming.
There are rumors that Sega might be considering its own subscription service for games. The new account could be related to this hypothetical offering, or it could simply facilitate the login process. Those playing Sega or Atlus titles that require login, such as Phantasy Star Online, would benefit from having a single access point, thus simplifying the management of security credentials across different games.
Other theories suggest that the creation of the SEGA account could be a pivot towards a subscription service similar to Game Pass or the first step in forming a centralized gaming hub, similar to what Ubisoft aims to achieve with Assassin’s Creed Infinity. Currently, it is too early to see the full scope of this account, but more details are expected to be revealed, including a list of incentives for users. At this initial stage, interest in the account could spike if Sega offers the Sega Genesis 6-Pak for free.
