The Royal Shakespeare Company Transforms Macbeth into a Neo-Noir Game.
It's Macbeth, but transformed into a "screenlife thriller video game."
Macbeth, the renowned play by William Shakespeare, is being transformed into an interactive video game with a neo-noir style, partly thanks to the work of the Royal Shakespeare Company. This new game, titled Lili, is described as a "thriller life simulation video game" that offers access to the personal devices of a contemporary version of Lady Macbeth.
According to the announcement, players will be immersed in a stylized, neo-noir vision of modern Iran, where surveillance and authoritarianism are part of everyday life. The gameplay will combine elements of live action with an interactive format, allowing participants to enter the world of Lady Macbeth and make decisions that will impact her fate. This version appears to be inspired by the interactive thrillers of Sam Barlow.
The development of Lili is being carried out in collaboration with iNK Stories, an independent studio and publisher based in New York, known for its work on 1979 Revolution: Black Friday. Actress Zar Amir will portray "Lady Macbeth (Lili)" in this proposal. The release date is scheduled for later in 2025.
