A leaked image of the DJI Osmo 360 indicates that GoPro and Insta360 should be worried – find out why.
Is DJI about to revolutionize the 360-degree camera market?
Recently, a leaked image has circulated on the internet showing a possible new DJI camera, the Osmo 360, alongside the Insta360 X4. This image stands out because it reveals that the diameter of the lens of the Osmo 360 appears to be larger than that of the X4, suggesting that it could feature a bigger sensor.
The leaker known as @hakasushi shared the image on X, formerly Twitter, where the mentioned camera can be seen alongside the Insta360 X4, recognized as one of the best 360 cameras on the market, and the Osmo Action 5 Pro. According to observations, if this design is confirmed, the Osmo 360 could opt for a 1/1.3-inch sensor, which is larger than the 1/2-inch type found in the Insta360 X4, although not as large as the 1-inch sensor present in other DJI models.
DJI's tendency to prioritize sensor size over resolution is evident, as the Osmo Action 5 Pro focuses on delivering better low-light image quality compared to competitors like the GoPro Hero 13 Black. This strategy reinforces the idea that the Osmo 360 could be a strong contender in the 360 camera market.
In addition to the mentioned specifications, the image also suggests that DJI has opted for a square design similar to that of the GoPro Max, which could be advantageous for use in extreme sports. This design diverges from the elongated profile of the Insta360 X4, which could negatively impact GoPro, which is still facing delays with its Max 2 model.
The possibility of DJI presenting its first 360 camera brings expectations in the sector, where Insta360 has maintained a dominant position. If the Osmo 360 is launched on the market, it could offer distinguishing features that make it stand out among its competitors.
