Apple's Foldable iPhone Could Surprise with Its Price.
Do you think Samsung's foldable phones are too expensive? According to an industry analyst, the rumored foldable iPhone could have an even higher price for fans.
The project for a foldable iPhone from Apple has mostly existed within the realm of consumer imagination rather than reality, but sometimes information from analysts and industry insiders comes to light. The most recent assessment comes from Ming-Chi Kuo, who has provided a price estimate for the device in the range of $2,000 to $2,500. For comparison, Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 6 retails for approximately $1,900.
Kuo points out several reasons that would justify this high cost. First, he mentions that Apple aims to maintain its brand image and is therefore likely to charge prices higher than the competition, assuming that the hardware it offers is of appealing quality. Nevertheless, he predicts that demand for the foldable iPhone will remain strong, despite the impact these prices would have on consumers.
Apple's quest to eliminate the crease line on its phone is cited as one of the features that could justify the premium price. So far, no manufacturer has completely managed to eliminate this characteristic, although the Oppo Find N5 has come closest to achieving this goal. Additionally, Apple is considering using a titanium alloy for the phone's structure, and a combination of stainless steel and titanium may be employed in some internal parts, similar to what has been done with the iPhone 16 Pro.
The new phone will also be quite thin, with a thickness of between 4.5 and 4.8 mm when unfolded, making it comparable to the Honor Magic V3 and Oppo's latest foldable model. Regarding battery technology, it is reported that Apple will implement a high-density formula that it is already considering for the rumored iPhone 17 Air model.
However, Kuo warns that the final specifications will not be determined until the second quarter of 2025, and mass production is expected to begin in the last quarter of 2026. In terms of market launch, Apple's foldable iPhone could be available in the second half of 2027, according to Kuo's forecasts.
