YouTube considers implementing a daily timer for users who want to reduce their Shorts usage.

YouTube is considering implementing a feature that allows users to set a daily timer to limit the time they spend watching Shorts.

YouTube is considering adding a feature that would allow users to set a daily timer to limit the time they spend on Shorts. According to recent findings from the beta version of the YouTube app, the development of this feature is seen as a solution to stop the endless scrolling on Shorts. Although this feature is not yet in public tests, a company spokesperson has confirmed that they are "exploring this for the future."

The code reveals that this timer will allow users to set a specific number of hours. When the set time runs out, Shorts will pause, becoming inaccessible for the rest of the day. However, there are indications that users will still be able to access "individual Shorts," which means that access to all short videos will not be completely blocked.

YouTube already has a "Take a break" reminder that users can activate for regular-length videos. The platform's initiative to address the problem of "doomscrolling" responds to a growing trend among users who are downloading specific apps to control their screen time. Additionally, there are devices that temporarily block certain apps on users' phones, highlighting the concern over addiction to social media. Major tech companies like Apple and Google have also developed tools to help users manage their compulsive scrolling habits.
