WhatsApp is testing a feature to prevent others from exporting your chats.
It will be available on WhatsApp for both iOS and Android.
WhatsApp is testing a new feature called "advanced chat privacy," which gives users greater control over the export of their conversations and the automatic saving of media they send. This option was initially reported in a beta version of the app for iOS and was also discovered recently in a beta for Android.
According to reports, this feature is found in the settings for both individual chats and groups. When activated, it will prevent other users, whether in an individual chat or a group, from exporting the entire chat history out of WhatsApp. Additionally, images and videos sent in the chat will not be automatically saved to device galleries, although it is unclear if users will still have the option to save them manually, as the description of the feature provided in screenshots does not address this aspect.
When the feature is activated in a group chat, all participants will receive a notification about the activation of this advanced privacy option. Furthermore, this setting disables Meta AI, a tool that can be used in conversations to answer questions or generate images.
Despite this new setting limiting the export of complete conversations, users will still be able to forward individual messages or take screenshots, which could complicate but not entirely prevent the preservation of chats. To further enhance the security of conversations, users can utilize the existing disappearing messages feature, which allows for the automatic deletion of messages after a set period. For now, the advanced privacy option is in beta phase, and there has been no announcement regarding when it will be available to a wider audience.
