Warning: There are counterfeit AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processors on Amazon.

Shopping on Amazon is usually considered safe; however, a hardware reviewer accidentally purchased a fake AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D.

A recent incident has highlighted the vulnerability of consumers when purchasing processors online, even through well-known platforms like Amazon. A hardware reviewer, known as Crmaris from HWBusters, found himself in an unfortunate situation after buying an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor. Although the box was very similar to the genuine one, the component he received turned out to be a scam.

Crmaris needed this processor for testing, so he decided to buy it on Amazon Germany, trusting that since it was sold directly by Amazon, the product would arrive in perfect condition. However, the reality was quite different. Upon opening the box, he noticed that the CPU inside had incorrect inscriptions and a suspicious appearance. The label indicated it was a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, but upon closer inspection, it was discovered to be an AMD FX processor from 2011, which not only was incapable of functioning on an AM5 motherboard but also did not deliver the expected performance of the genuine product.

This case has raised the need for a deeper investigation by Amazon, especially considering that the product had been sold directly through its platform and was not a return. Crmaris requested a refund but was informed that it could take up to three weeks to process.

Following this experience, a check was carried out on Amazon United States, where another suspicious listing was found. This sponsored listing appeared at the top of search results, sold by a third party with no reviews and at a price of $429, which was considered much higher than its current market price, especially when compared to other retailers.

This incident underscores the importance of exercising caution when buying computer components online and the need to act quickly if something seems off, as fraud involving counterfeit products is increasingly common.
