Vaio launches a 14-inch laptop weighing 999 g, with up to 64 GB of RAM, support for 5G SIM, and a physical Gigabit Ethernet port.
The Vaio SX14-R is compatible with both physical SIM and eSIM options.
Vaio has introduced the new SX14-R model, a 14-inch laptop that stands out for being lightweight and offering advanced connectivity options. This device, specifically designed for professionals, weighs just under 1 kg (2.2 pounds), making it slightly heavier than its predecessor, the SX12, which was more compact.
The SX14-R is powered by Intel's Core Ultra H-series processors, specifically the Ultra 5 125H or the Ultra 7 155H. Although the Lunar Lake architecture of the second series would have been preferable over the previous Meteor Lake, the SX14-R's performance remains outstanding, thanks to its configuration options of up to 64GB of LPDDR5X memory and up to 2TB of NVMe PCIe 4.0 storage.
In terms of connectivity, the laptop offers two Thunderbolt 4 ports for fast data transfer, two USB 3.0 Type-A ports, and an HDMI port. It also includes a Gigabit Ethernet port, ideal for maintaining a stable connection in office environments. On the wireless side, the SX14-R supports 5G and Wi-Fi 7, and like the SX12 model, it allows simultaneous use of a SIM and an eSIM, making it easy to switch between networks, a considerable benefit for frequent travelers or remote workers.
The device is equipped with front-facing stereo speakers and comes with an optional 9.2MP webcam that supports HDR video. It also features a function that automatically turns off the screen when the user steps away. Users will be able to choose between two battery options: a high-capacity model that promises up to 16 hours of video playback or 38 hours on standby, and a standard battery that lasts up to 11/27 hours. The actual capacity of both batteries has not been specified.
One of the most attractive aspects of the Vaio SX14-R is the color options in which it is available. You can choose from elegant shades such as Deep Green and Urban Bronze, in addition to classic Fine Black and Bright Silver.
Currently, the SX14-R is exclusively available in Japan, with a starting price of 259,800 yen (approximately $1,730), although a global launch is expected in 2025.
