Think twice before booking the Hori Piranha Plant controller for Nintendo Switch 2, as there is a significant drawback.

A complicated and thorny situation.

The output resolution for the Nintendo Switch 2 camera models has been confirmed. It has been revealed that the official camera offers 1080p quality, while the third-party option from Hori has a resolution of only 480p. Both options are currently available in the My Nintendo store in the UK.

The more expensive Nintendo Switch 2 camera is priced at $49.99 / £49.99 and provides superior 1080p video capture quality. This might explain the interest in Hori's licensed camera, whose Piranha Plant design is appealing and could look great atop the Switch 2 system. Additionally, its price in the UK is more accessible, costing £33.99.

However, the major drawback of the Hori model is its low 480p resolution, resulting in grainier images compared to those from the official camera. This issue is exacerbated because, according to observations, the camera output is relatively small on the TV screen. This means the overall appearance will be less defined compared to the clear Full HD output of the official camera.

The design of Hori's camera is attractive, especially in contrast to the simpler style chosen by Nintendo. Therefore, for children and families, the Piranha Plant camera could be a valid and affordable option. However, for more complex gaming sessions with friends, it’s hard not to consider the official camera as the better choice.

With the imminent release, there will be an opportunity to test and review both alternatives, although technical data is generally accurate, and for this more economical model, the situation does not seem favorable in comparison.
