The Tapestry app now allows you to remove duplicates on your social media.
Tapestry, a new app designed to organize the open social network, is incorporating a useful feature that will help users stay updated across multiple social platforms.
Tapestry, a new application aimed at organizing the open social web, has introduced a useful feature for those who follow multiple social networks: the ability to remove duplicate posts from their feeds. This means that if a user follows the same person on various platforms, such as Bluesky and Mastodon, they won't see the same post twice if it has been shared in different places. The new feature, called Crosstalk, will be implemented with the Tapestry 1.1 update for iOS, which will be released on Tuesday, marking a significant update following its launch in February 2025.
Developed by the team behind Twitterific, an award-winning third-party Twitter client, Tapestry focuses on the emerging open social web, where decentralized platforms and technologies seek to reduce the control of large tech companies over the internet. Unlike billionaire owners such as Mark Zuckerberg of Meta or Elon Musk of X, open social networks return control to the users of the web.
The application allows users to follow all posts shared using open technology, including posts from apps like Bluesky and Mastodon, as well as other RSS-powered sources, such as blogs, Tumblr, and Reddit updates, as well as YouTube videos and podcasts. Tapestry users can combine these sources to create their own custom feeds. However, a common challenge with multi-feed aggregation apps like Tapestry is dealing with duplicate occurrences, as other users may post their updates across multiple services.
The latest Tapestry update is capable of automatically filtering these duplicates, even when the posts are not exactly the same. For example, if a longer post on Mastodon is edited down to meet Bluesky's 300-character limit, Tapestry will be able to detect the differences and hide the duplicate post. Users can choose to hide the duplicate post or "snooze" it, or if they prefer, completely remove it from their feed.
The updated version of the app also includes a feature called Quicklinks, which are shortcuts to favorite timelines or custom feeds. Users can switch between up to four different timelines by long-pressing the feed icon in the app's toolbar. These customizations are device-specific, allowing different sets of favorites on the iPhone and iPad.
Another minor improvement includes a more accessible button for refreshing feeds and switching between feed locations, located in the left menu button. Users can also customize feeds from the Action menu of an item and change the app icon, among other options. Tapestry is available for free download on the App Store with in-app purchases. A monthly or annual subscription is offered at $1.99 or $19.99 respectively, or a lifetime pass can be purchased for $79.99.
