The successful prequel series to Yellowstone, 1883, is coming to Netflix, although it won't be available to everyone.

Netflix returns to the year 1883.

The prequel series to Yellowstone, titled 1883, will be available for streaming on Netflix in certain regions starting mid-March. This new title from Taylor Sheridan will be added to the platform's catalog, although its availability will not include the United States due to streaming rights restrictions.

Netflix had already begun offering Yellowstone in some areas, making it a competitor to Paramount Plus in the neo-western drama genre. Although Yellowstone was acquired by Netflix for over 50 countries earlier this year, viewers in the United States cannot access this series, which is only available through Peacock and Paramount Network in that region.

The arrival of 1883 will occur in a first phase in Latin American countries, such as Brazil, as well as in Germany, the United Kingdom, and Canada, from March 12, 2025. However, it has been confirmed that the series will not be available in Australia and can only be watched on Paramount Plus in that context.

Set in the post-Civil War era, 1883 tells the story of the Dutton family as they escape poverty in Texas and travel across the Great Plains, where they establish what would become the famous Yellowstone ranch in Montana.

It is possible that 1883 will reach more countries in the future, given that other Paramount Plus titles have been progressively released on Netflix. For example, Yellowstone was initially available in some regions in 2024 before expanding to more countries in early 2025. However, it seems that U.S. viewers will not have access to 1883 due to streaming restrictions, limiting its viewing exclusively to Paramount Plus.

Despite this, there are other Paramount Plus titles available on Netflix in the United States, such as the series Dexter and Your Honor. Additionally, Netflix has secured a deal to stream Halo, one of Paramount Plus's standout programs.
