The Stargate Project is a $500 million plan for an artificial intelligence data center intended for OpenAI.
Nvidia, Microsoft, and Arm are among the technology partners.
A plan has been presented to create a network of data centers dedicated to artificial intelligence during a press conference at the White House. This announcement featured Masayoshi Son, Sam Altman, and Larry Ellison, who joined Donald Trump to unveil Project Stargate. The companies involved, Softbank, OpenAI, and Oracle, along with MGX, are identified as the "initial capital investors" with a commitment of $500 billion in investments over the next four years, aiming to "build new AI infrastructure for OpenAI in the United States."
According to information provided by OpenAI, companies such as "Arm, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Oracle, and OpenAI" are part of the initial technology partners, and the construction "is already underway," starting in Texas while other locations across the country are being evaluated. The project indicates that "Oracle, NVIDIA, and OpenAI will work closely together to build and operate this computing system."
On the other hand, Microsoft has made an announcement updating its partnership with OpenAI, stating that key elements of their agreement will remain in effect until 2030. This includes "our access to OpenAI's intellectual property, our revenue-sharing agreements, and our exclusivity over OpenAI's APIs, all continuing moving forward." However, some changes to their exclusivity arrangement have been indicated, allowing Microsoft to have the right of first refusal on the construction of new capacity by OpenAI.
During the press conference where the project was presented, which has been the subject of rumors since early last year, Son and Altman addressed Trump directly, emphasizing that the development of this initiative was only possible due to his electoral victory.
