The next season of MultiVersus will be the last.

It closes its doors just a year after its official launch.

Warner Bros. Games has announced that MultiVersus, the popular free-to-play fighting game, will cease operations at the end of its upcoming season. The fifth and final season will begin on February 4 and run until May 30, 2025. After this date, the only way to play will be against AI-controlled opponents or in local co-op mode. The game will also no longer be available for download.

To access the offline version of MultiVersus, users will need to download the latest update of the game and register during the fifth season. This will create a local save file linked to their PlayStation, Microsoft, Steam, or Epic Games account, allowing them to enjoy the game offline with all accumulated and purchased content.

MultiVersus was initially launched in open beta in 2022 but was discontinued in 2023 following a drop in player numbers. It returned in May 2024, incorporating characters from various intellectual properties of Warner Bros. Discovery, such as Samurai Jack, The Powerpuff Girls, and Beetlejuice. During the fifth season, the final characters to be introduced in the game will be Aquaman and Lola Bunny from Looney Tunes.

Additionally, MultiVersus has decided to end in-game purchases starting today, meaning that Gleamium will no longer be available for purchase. However, players will still be able to use any remaining Gleamium or character tokens until the end of the fifth season.

The landscape for live service games, like MultiVersus, has been challenging in recent months. For example, Sony shut down Concord last year and canceled two unannounced live service projects, while the servers for XDefiant are set to go offline in June.
