The new HPE Gen12 servers feature Xeon 6 CPUs, faster DDR5 speeds, and enhanced iLO 7 capabilities for improved security.

The HPE ProLiant Gen12 server reduces energy consumption by 65% and cooling power by 90%.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has introduced its new ProLiant Compute Gen12 series, which includes eight servers powered by sixth-generation Intel Xeon processors. This launch marks a significant shift from previous generations that also offered options with AMD EPYC. According to HPE, the new range, equipped with faster DDR5 memory configurations, can achieve up to 65% annual energy savings, thanks to its AI-driven optimizations and its direct liquid cooling (DLC) architecture without fans, which reduces cooling energy consumption by up to 90%.

The ProLiant Gen12 portfolio integrates a quantum-resistant encryption system, protecting against cryptographic threats, while HPE iLO 7 provides independent hardware-based protection for sensitive credentials such as encryption keys and system passwords.

The new series includes six rack-mounted servers, one blade server, and a high-performance system with four processors. Among the highlighted models are the DL380 (2U) and DL360 (1U), which offer dual-socket configurations and support up to 288 cores, 8TB of DDR5 memory, and PCIe Gen5 expansion. These models are aimed at businesses that require scalable computing power for artificial intelligence, cloud, and virtualization workloads.

For companies seeking low-cost single-socket solutions, the DL320 and DL340 servers offer specific performance benefits. The DL320, a 1U server, can support up to 144 cores, 2TB of DDR5 memory, and PCIe Gen5 expansion, making it ideal for virtualization. On the other hand, the DL340, a 2U server, is optimized for cloud computing driven by artificial intelligence, with support for up to 8TB of DDR5 memory and PCIe Gen5 connectivity.

Designed for small and medium-sized enterprises and edge computing, the tower server ML350 offers up to 8TB of DDR5 memory and multiple PCIe Gen5 slots. The DL380a, a 2U rack server, also stands out, capable of supporting intensive workloads and up to 16 single-width GPUs or 8 double-width GPUs.

HPE plans to launch the six rack-mounted servers in the first quarter of 2025, while the Synergy 480 blade server and the high-performance DL580 four-processor system will be released in the summer, available as standalone units or through HPE GreenLake. According to Krista Satterthwaite, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Compute at HPE, "Our customers face workloads that are overwhelmingly data-intensive and increasingly demanding. The new HPE ProLiant Compute Gen12 servers provide organizations with the processing power and management insights needed to thrive."

The new servers are designed as a modern enterprise platform focused on a hybrid environment, incorporating security innovations and control capabilities to help businesses tackle evolving threats and performance challenges that their legacy hardware cannot address.
