The new flagship rugged laptop from Getac is the first to feature an AI CPU and GPU, bringing AI to the edge.
The Getac B360 series features artificial intelligence technology, three batteries, and the power of an NVIDIA GPU.
Getac has introduced two new rugged laptops, the B360 and B360 Pro, which feature artificial intelligence capabilities, marking the company’s first foray into this field following the release of the F110 and K120 the previous year. These devices are designed to meet the needs of professionals working in demanding environments, such as defense, public safety, and utilities.
Both models are the first fully rugged laptops to incorporate Intel Core Ultra Series 2 processors and Intel AI Boost technology. During performance tests, the computers performed text-to-report conversion tasks in just seconds, demonstrating the advantages of edge AI compared to cloud-based solutions.
In addition to AI-driven features, the B360 ensures high-speed data transfers thanks to its Thunderbolt 4 connectivity. It includes Wi-Fi 7 to enhance wireless performance with faster speeds and lower latency. This model comes with dual batteries as standard, with an option to add a third, enabling extended uninterrupted operation while allowing the use of up to three fast SSDs with a total capacity of 6TB.
For intensive graphical tasks, the B360 Pro can optionally include a 4GB Nvidia Quadro RTX A500 GPU, enhancing visual processing and ensuring smooth performance in applications such as mapping, surveillance, and 3D modeling. It also offers an optional media bay that can house a third battery, a DVD or Blu-ray drive, or additional storage.
Both laptops meet MIL-STD-810H and IP66 standards, protecting the devices against shocks, dust, and water. They can also be equipped with high-precision GPS, making them ideal for defense applications. In this regard, the B360 Pro can have additional PCMCIA readers for expanded functionality and can be installed in vehicles for mobile command operations.
Although the price of these devices has not yet been announced, they are expected to be available in April 2025. James Hwang, president of Getac Technology Corporation, mentioned that the rise of open-source language models and Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) has led the company to collaborate with industry clients to develop innovative AI applications that will maximize operational benefits and promote AI adoption in sectors such as public safety, utilities, and defense.
