The market is flooded with second-hand Teslas as drivers reject Elon Musk through the brand.

Elon Musk continues to alienate Tesla's own customers.

In March 2025, Tesla's situation has taken a concerning turn, as a record number of electric vehicle owners from the brand are deciding to part ways with it. Recent data from Cox Automotive indicates that used Tesla listings in the Autotrader automotive marketplace have reached unprecedented figures. During the last week of March, over 13,000 Teslas were recorded for sale, representing a 67% increase compared to the previous year.

This surge in the number of available Tesla cars is not merely a trend in the automotive industry, but rather reflects a specific issue within the brand. Cox's analysis reveals that the growth in used Tesla listings surpasses that of any other automaker. With the increase in supply, it is likely that prices for these vehicles will continue to decline. According to previous reports, the value of used Teslas has consistently decreased, with an approximate reduction of $6,000 in the average price of a Tesla Model Y over the past year.

To exacerbate the situation, Tesla's new vehicle sales have also experienced a drastic decline globally. In Germany, sales have plummeted by 76%. Additionally, the number of owners wishing to trade in their Teslas for new models has increased, prompting the company to reject requests from Cybertruck owners looking to make swaps.

The figure of Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO, has generated controversy due to his ties with the Trump administration, and it seems that this connection is negatively impacting the brand's perception. Over the last year, protests have erupted worldwide against Musk, with individuals expressing their discontent over his closeness to the former president and his association with DOGE, which has triggered significant cuts in federal funding for major medical research and global wellness programs.

With increasing competition in the electric vehicle market from other manufacturers, interest in Tesla continues to wane, even among its own customers.
