The creators of Overcooked and No Man’s Sky are teaming up to develop a new cooperative game.
Stage Fright is a new cooperative game created by Ghost Town Games, the developers of Overcooked, in collaboration with Hello Games, the studio behind No Man's Sky.
Ghost Town Games, known for developing the popular cooperative game Overcooked, has unveiled its new project titled Stage Fright. The trailer for this highly anticipated title was revealed during a live broadcast at the 2024 Game Awards held in Los Angeles. This studio, responsible for one of the most successful indie games of the past decade, is once again offering a multiplayer experience that can be enjoyed with friends. This time, the setting is magical and eerie, combining chaotic gameplay elements similar to those of Overcooked, but with a focus on cooperation akin to an escape room.
While Stage Fright strays quite a bit from the fast-paced cooking of Overcooked, it can be described as a fusion between the famous cooking game and Luigi's Mansion, featuring a charming narrative. Unlike Overcooked, which did not focus on telling a deep story, Stage Fright promises an emotional plot that, according to the publisher Hello Games, has "a true heart."
Hello Games, the developer behind No Man’s Sky, decided to get involved in this new project due to the close relationship they have maintained with Ghost Town Games since the creation of Overcooked. The initial collaboration between Phil Duncan, Oli De-Vine, and Gemma Langford for the cooking game has resulted in a lasting bond. Tim Woodley, the publishing lead at Hello Games, reminisced in an email about the fun moments spent playing that first demo, where the original team enjoyed and reacted to the chaos of the game.
Hello Games' support includes not only development expertise but also the desire to work with a group of creatives who have made a mark on their journey. Woodley commented that playing an early version of Stage Fright generated the same excitement as trying Overcooked years ago.
This new title promises to capture the attention of fans and mark a new chapter in the collaboration between these two studios.
