The changes to the S Pen of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra are becoming increasingly confusing and disappointing.
The replacement pencils S are not economical at all.
The recent arrival of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra has generated mixed opinions, particularly regarding the modifications made to the S Pen. Unlike its predecessor, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, the new model does not include Bluetooth connectivity, which implies the removal of various functionalities that depend on this technology. This decision, seemingly motivated by an attempt to reduce costs, has been justified by Samsung with the argument that very few users utilized the Bluetooth-enabled features.
Despite these modifications, the price of the new S Pen remains consistent with the previous model. Specifically, it costs $50 in the United States, £49 in the United Kingdom, and AU$62.30 in Australia, which does not reflect any savings for consumers, as this new S Pen, lacking Bluetooth, is offered at the same price as the previous model that did include it. In the UK, in fact, the new model has a slightly higher cost than its predecessor.
A recent teardown of the device, conducted by the channel JerryRigEverything, revealed that despite lacking Bluetooth, the Galaxy S25 Ultra appears to possess an inductive charger in the S Pen compartment. This component could be used to charge a Bluetooth S Pen, but since no such device is included in the package, its utility is questioned. Some suggest that this charger might simply serve to detect whether the S Pen is in its base.
There is speculation about the possibility that Samsung might be considering launching a Bluetooth S Pen in the future, as a blog post from the company mentioned that this could happen. However, Samsung has denied any plans to offer a Bluetooth version, which has puzzled many observers. While some believe the company may have reversed its strategy regarding the Bluetooth S Pen, there are also those who hope this decision will be reconsidered, especially in light of user requests to reinstate Bluetooth functionalities.
