Samsung users, beware: One UI 7 could mess up your home screen.

If you decide to upgrade to One UI 7, you may need to take a few minutes to reorganize your home screen. Fortunately, it has a tool that makes this process easier.

If you have not yet updated to the latest version of One UI 7, it is advisable to take a screenshot of your home screen layout before doing so. According to various reports, the update could unexpectedly rearrange your home screen, much like mixing up a game of Scrabble. One UI 7 does not support the same number of grid settings as its predecessor, having introduced the Now Bar, which was not present in One UI 6. The previous version allowed for grid layouts of 4x5, 4x6, 5x5, and 5x6, whereas One UI 7 limits these options to just 4x6 and 5x6. If you are using one of the unsupported formats, your screen will look different after the update, and you will need to decide how to restructure your home screen from there. This also happens if you transfer your data to a new device that is already using One UI 7, such as the new Galaxy S25.

However, there is a solution. The Good Lock app allows for customization of Samsung's interface, and the Home Up module gives you the ability to create custom grids and a DIY home screen feature. While losing some design options may seem like a minor inconvenience, it is important to note that One UI 7 brings a host of artificial intelligence features that significantly enhance the usability of the device. Among these features are Now Brief, Circle to Search, Writing Assist, and many more.

The Now Bar, reminiscent of Apple's Dynamic Island feature, allows for quick and accessible display of useful information such as driving directions or weather updates. Despite some changes brought by One UI 7, the benefits it offers outweigh the loss of design options, especially since you can customize your home screen with the Home Up module.

In addition, the Now Bar has become more functional, as it allows users to view notifications, currently playing music, and other information from the lock screen. It now also includes integration with Google Maps, available for the Galaxy S25 series, making it easy to see directions and upcoming turns with just a glance at the lock screen, simplifying navigation in unfamiliar places.

With the multiple customization options and new features offered, users of the Galaxy S25 series will enjoy an enhanced experience with their device.
