Sony removes the 60fps mod for Bloodborne through a DMCA notice.
Just remake the game, Sony.
A popular mod that allows for an improved frame rate in Bloodborne has become unavailable due to a takedown request under the DMCA from Sony. Designed by Twitch streamer Lance McDonald, this mod was created in 2020 and released to the public in 2021. In a recent message posted on X, McDonald informed that Sony Interactive Entertainment requested the removal of the download links for the patch.
The main function of this mod was to enable Bloodborne to run at 60 fps more smoothly, enhancing the frame pacing. Since its release in 2015 for PlayStation 4, Bloodborne has been capped at 30 fps, also experiencing sporadic stutters due to inconsistent frame pacing. This graphical limitation has persisted even on the PS4 Pro and through backwards compatibility on PlayStation 5.
Lance's mod has been extensively tested and praised by the Soulsborne gaming community, who wish for FromSoftware's titles to feature more advanced technical and graphical capabilities. Creators like Digital Foundry have highlighted this mod, interviewing McDonald in 2020 about his creation. Additionally, they have utilized his mod to showcase a 4K 60 fps presentation on PS5 through AI scaling, as well as a recent video demonstrating Bloodborne emulation on PS4 with significant performance improvements.
Among the most ardent fans of Bloodborne, there has emerged the expectation that Sony's action could be a hint at an announcement related to a remake, especially with the tenth anniversary of the game's release approaching. However, some also suggest that the company might be adopting tactics similar to those of Nintendo in this context.
