
Robert Downey Jr. is Ready for Doctor Doom and the Avengers, According to the Russo Brothers.
In a recent interview, the Russo brothers hinted that Robert Downey Jr. played an important role in the creation of their villain character, Doctor Doom, in the Avengers.
Robert Downey Jr. recently surprised Marvel fans with his appearance as Victor Von Doom in Hall H during Comic-Con 2024. After playing Iron Man for over a decade, the actor is shifting to the dark side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe by taking on the role of the villain Doctor Doom. This character will be the main antagonist in the upcoming films Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.
In addition to Downey, other key names are returning to the Marvel universe. The Russo brothers, Joe and Anthony, will be directing Doomsday and Secret Wars. These directors are known for their work on films such as Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.
In a recent interview, the Russos mentioned how Downey's involvement has influenced the development of his character. Joe Russo highlighted how immersed Downey is in this new role, sharing ideas about the character's backstory and costume. According to him, Downey is very excited about the possibility of creating a three-dimensional and richly nuanced character.
The production of Doomsday will begin next month in London. Although there is little information available about the Avengers projects due to their secretive nature, the films are expected to feature a large cast, where many MCU heroes will appear in some form. So far, the members of the Fantastic Four have been confirmed for Doomsday, which will include Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 1, 2026, while Avengers: Secret Wars will hit theaters on May 7, 2027.
