Paramount Leaves YouTube TV, But YouTube Will Lower Some Fees as Compensation.
There are no indications of when Paramount will make its return.
YouTube TV subscribers will face significant changes to their channel selection, as Paramount and CBS content will no longer be available starting February 13, 2025. The reason for this situation is the lack of a content distribution agreement between YouTube and Paramount.
According to a notification sent to subscribers, this dispute will not only affect the streaming of new content but will also remove previously recorded content from Paramount channels from their DVRs. During the time this issue persists, Entertainment Plus users will receive a $10 discount on each bill while Paramount content is unavailable. Additionally, those with subscriptions to Paramount+ with Showtime or BET+ through YouTube TV will not be charged until the issue is resolved and will receive an automatic refund of their last charge.
YouTube has indicated that, should an agreement not be reached and if Paramount content remains "unavailable for an extended period," subscribers will be offered an $8 credit that they can claim through their platform.
The channels that will be affected during this dispute include a variety of national networks such as CBS, CBS Sports Network, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, among others. There will also be an impact on local channels in various cities like Atlanta, Boston, and New York.
There is still no information on when a new agreement will be reached between both parties. It is worth noting that a similar conflict occurred between YouTube and Disney in December 2021, which was resolved within a short period. Currently, YouTube has stated that they are in active talks with Paramount and hope to reach an agreement soon.
