OnePlus will replace the Alert Slider with a configurable button.
OnePlus assures that the modification will be "for improvement."
OnePlus plans to replace its signature Alert Slider with a new customizable button, according to CEO Pete Lau, who shared this information in a OnePlus community forum. This component, which has been a hallmark in most of the brand's phones over the last decade — with the exception of the OnePlus 10T — allows users to quickly switch between normal sound, silent, and vibration modes.
Lau argues that the Slider is “a significant piece of hardware just for changing sound profiles” and that the new “smarter and more customizable” button will provide an experience better tailored to users' needs. Although the specific phone models that will feature this innovation and the launch date have not been specified, it is crucial to mention that the button will allow users to change sound profiles without the need to unlock their device, a feature the CEO considers essential. He also promises that its functionality will be suitable for advanced users as well as those who prefer a simpler interface.
OnePlus may implement a system similar to the Action Button that Apple introduced on the iPhone 15 Pro. The latter offers preset options when the button is pressed, such as silencing the phone or turning on the flashlight, and also allows for the execution of complex iOS automations through shortcuts.
